Application
Requirements
Your scholarship application
must include each of the following sections and be labeled according to
the headings provided below.
Cover Letter
- Enclose a cover letter
stating "Bill Mason Memorial Scholarship Fund Application",
indicating both your residential and permanent home mailing addresses
and any other relevant information you want to include.
Section 1
Confirmation
of Canadian citizenship
- Provide a copy
of your birth certificate, Canadian passport or other equivalent document
Section 2
Confirmation of full-time
registration at a Canadian college or university.
- Provide the full name
and address of the college or university in which you are enrolled
- Provide a confirmation
of enrolment letter or related document
Section 3
Confirmation
of undergraduate (second year or higher) registration in an outdoor recreation,
environmental studies or other related program.
- Provide the name
of your program or discipline of study (i.e. Honours, Tourism and Recreation)
- Provide your
current academic year standing (i.e. 3rd year of a 4 year program)
- Provide the name,
address and telephone number of the department head
Section 4
Confirmation that academice course content includes environment education.
- Provide a list,
and brief description, of current courses emphasizing environmental
awareness.
- Do not send program
of study brochures, report only on those courses in which you are enrolled
for the current academic year.
Section 5
Confirmation
of an academic standing of B+ (75%) or higher
- Provide an official
copy of your transcript
Section 6
Affirmation that
you are planning a career related to outdoor education or environmental
studies
- Outline your
past involvement and leadership within the environmental and outdoor
recreation fields
- Describe your
future job, plans and / or goals for continuing your involvement with
environmental stewardship.
Section 7
Knowledge of the
late Bill Mason
- Provide
a brief, one-paragraph statement outlining your knowledge of the late
Bill Mason.
- Not to exceed
100 words
Section 8
Statement of philosophy
- Provide a statement
of philosophy regarding your beliefs with reference to the environment,
to outdoor education and to how it pertains to the ethics of land and
water
- Not to exceed
600 words
Section 9
Demonstrated financial
need for assistance
- Provide a copy
of your budget
- Be sure to outline
both expenses and anticipated revenues during the current academic year
Section 10
Background in canoeing,
sea kayaking or river kayaking.
- Provide a résumé of your paddling involvement, where applicable.
