River Kayaking Instructor Level 1
Aim
To provide a national certification of competence in the instruction and administration of PC River Kayaking Programs and courses
Upon successful completion of the River Kayaking Instructor
Level 1 course, the Instructor may:
- Administer and instruct the Flatwater Kayaking and the River Kayaking Level 1 skills courses in accordance with PC policies and standards and in compliance with all laws governing such activities.
- Administer River Kayaking programs to individuals on
Flatwater through Class II Moving Water.
- A Level 1 instructor is expected to promote PC River Kayaking Program.
Prerequisites
- At least 18 years of age.
- Current PC membership and Provincial / Territorial membership.
- PC Flatwater Instructor, PC River Kayaking Level 1, equivalent certification, or comparable skills and experience.
- It is strongly recommended that all River Kayaking
Instructors have, in addition to their kayaking qualifications, some qualification
in River Rescue, Wilderness First Aid and CPR.
Course Length
3 days minimum
Class ratio
1 trainer: 6 instructor candidates
Conditions
Class II+ Moving water, Class III+ rapids.
