Flatwater Canoeing Instructor
Aim
The purpose of the Flatwater Instructor Course is to provide a national certification of competence in the instruction and administration of PC Flatwater Level Courses. The Flatwater Instructor is the prerequisite for all other instructor levels.
Upon successful completion of the Flatwater Canoeing Instructor
course, the Instructor may:
- Certify Flatwater Level Programs and Courses in Canada, in accordance with PC and Provincial/Territorial Affiliate Association policies and standards, and in compliance with all laws governing such activities.
- Instruct at a Flatwater
Instructor course, by invitation of the Course Director.
A Flatwater Instructor is expected to promote the development of PC Flatwater Program and to promote the development of Flatwater paddling as a separate discipline of recreational canoeing
Prerequisites
- At least 16 years of age at the time of the Flatwater Instructor Course.
- Current PC and provincial/territorial affiliate association memberships.
- PC Flatwater Level, or PC Flatwater Tandem and Flatwater Solo, or PC Flatwater A, B, C, and D; equivalent certification; or comparable skills and experience (with the permission of the Course Director).
- It is strongly recommended
that all Flatwater Instructors have in addition to their canoeing qualifications,
some qualification in swimming, First Aid, and CPR
