First Call For Nominations
Paddle Canada Pagaie Canada Board of Directors
Nominations are required for the position (one) of Board of Directors Member for each Province and Territory of Canada, to assume that role on 2 April 2008. A President, Treasurer, and Secretary will be selected by the new Board from their members. The immediate Past President and President Emeritus, Mr. Kirk Wipper, OC, will fill out the Board of Directors.
The term of office is nominally two years. However to expedite the new Board of Directors in achieving its goal of having half of the Board elected every other year, for the first election half of the Board will be elected for about one and one half years (the Odd Year half) (Newfoundland, New Brunswick, Quebec, Manitoba, Alberta, Yukon, and Nunavut) while the remainder will be elected for about two and one half years (the Even Year half) (Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Ontario, Saskatchewan, British Columbia, North West Territories).
Each Provincial or Territorial Board of Director Member will represent all Paddle Canada members in their Province or Territory, and be accountable to all Paddle Canada members across Canada. Please read the ‘Director's Obligation' before completing the also attached nomination form.
Paddle Canada Board of Directors nominees, their nominators and seconders must be 2008 members in good standing of Paddle Canada as of the close of nominations, 10 February 2008. Paddle Canada Board of Directors Members must also be members in good standing of at least one Paddle Canada Federated Member in their Province or Territory, where one exists.
As a minimum it is expected that several hours per week are required to appropriately fulfill this role. This includes telephone meetings, the occasional face to face meeting, and dealing with correspondence of all types. At present Provincial / Territorial Representatives are subsidized by their own Provincial organization (in most cases), and the Paddle Canada Executive have been paying their own way. While Paddle Canada's financial position has improved somewhat in recent times, continued financial vigilance will be required for the foreseeable future. The new Paddle Canada Board of Directors will decide their own expense reimbursement arrangements.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the Nominating Committee or any other member of the current Paddle Canada Board of Directors. Paddle Canada Pagaie Canada will be as good as your passion and vision leads it to be. We look forward to receiving your nomination, and wish you every success in this regard.
